Vietnam has officially become the world’s second-largest exporter of furniture, following China — as recognized by the World Furniture Outlook Report 2025–2026 (CSIL, Italy).
Vietnamese wood products are now present in 166 countries and territories, with a trade surplus of USD 14.5 billion in 2024.
After the administrative merger that brought Bình Dương — the country’s largest furniture manufacturing hub — into the greater Ho Chi Minh City area, the region now accounts for 70% of Vietnam’s total wood exports, supported by a complete ecosystem of production, processing, logistics, and seaport infrastructure.
From Growth to Governance: A Turning Point
With global success comes new responsibility.
Industry leaders, including Viforest and HAWA, are urging selective control of FDI to ensure that only long-term, technology-driven investors contribute to Vietnam’s development — preventing “origin fraud” and maintaining fair competition in international trade.
Markets such as the United States, which absorbs over 55% of Vietnam’s wood exports, are tightening import policies under Section 232 and other non-tariff measures.
Today, buyers ask not just for prices, but for traceability, sustainability, and ESG compliance.
As Mr. Vũ Quang Huy of Tekcom notes:
“Customers no longer ask ‘How much?’ first. They ask, ‘Where does your wood come from, and is your process responsible?’”
Green Transformation Through Digitalization
Ho Chi Minh City’s vision to 2035 is ambitious — to become the global center of wood and interior innovation.
That requires two pillars: transparency and sustainability.
Experts are proposing:
-
A national digital database for material traceability and HS code management.
-
Green industrial clusters with shared solar, water, and waste-treatment systems.
-
Carbon measurement and low-emission certification centers.
Leading enterprises like An Cường have already proven the path forward — using SAP S/4HANA systems to raise productivity by 20% and cut costs by 10%, showing that digital transformation and green transformation must go hand in hand to meet new EU and U.S. ESG standards.
